Salvationists from around Australia will unite for tomorrow’s National Prayer Summit, both physically and virtually.

The culmination of the 100 Days of Ceaseless Prayer will see 30 delegates and leadership from both territories, representing divisions and regions from around Australia, gather in Adelaide with local Salvationists for prayer. These prayer gatherings are scheduled across Saturday and Sunday to lay a foundation for the Australia One project.

While a number of events are planned in the Adelaide area, corps around the country have been encouraged to create their own events to celebrate the summit.

A central prayer gathering at 7pm (ACST) in Adelaide will be live-streamed across the country via Salvo Studios so that The Salvation Army will be virtually united in prayer for our nation and our neighbourhoods. Prayer resources will be made available through the 100 Days website so that you can participate alongside the live stream.

“Imagine every expression of mission in The Salvation Army united in prayer for God’s Kingdom in Australia!” said 100 Days Coordinator Amanda Merrett. “I firmly believe that in order for The Salvation Army to be the best possible version of itself, it has to look past itself – seeking God’s Kingdom above all else.”

The first prayer event will be a Gum Tree Service in the Adelaide Botanic Gardens, symbolising the beginnings of the Salvation Army in Australia. Later in the afternoon, a number of prayer worskshops will be held at Adelaide’s City Salvos, ahead of the main Saturday night event. On Sunday morning there will be a prayer walk around the city centre, followed by a final service at City Salvos at 10am.

“A main focus of the Prayer Summit will be to humble ourselves and seek God’s voice,” said Amanda, referring to the Bible passage in 2 Chronicles 7:14. “The Prayer Summit is an opportunity for us to hear what is God saying to The Salvation Army and consider how we can faithfully respond.”

The Australia Eastern Territory will be represented at the summit by 10 Salvationists and officers from Queensland and NSW and ACT Divisions. They are Lieutenant Adele Williams and Salvationist Shaun O’Leary, from Queensland, cadets Leanne Hardaker and Stephanie Savage from NSW, Camilla Hall, Darrell Slater, Major Darryll Smidt, and Major San Holland from the ACT and Major Lynne Whittaker and Major Stuart Reid from Australia Eastern Territorial Headquarters.

The live-streamed prayer event can be accessed from the 100 Days of Ceaseless Prayer website

You can also follow events on Facebook and Instagram.

The Prayer Summit launches a significant week for The Salvation Army in Australia as leaders from the two current territories gather in Adelaide for a leadership conference as they move towards one territory. The highlight of the week will be the installation of Commissioners Floyd and Tracey Tidd as the new national leaders by General André Cox and Commissioner Silvia Cox. This event will also be live-streamed.
