A three-day walk across the Grampians, a majestic mountain range and forest rising out of farmland in Victoria’s west, will help raise funds for The Salvation Army’s Freedom Partnership to End Modern Slavery.

Project Futures, which has worked with The Salvation Army’s Freedom Partnership since 2011, is organising the walk. It will take place from 9-11 February next year.

All funds raised will be donated to The Salvation Army’s Trafficking Slavery Safe House in Sydney. The house is Australia’s only refuge for victims of modern slavery, slavery-like practices and human trafficking.

Through the safe house, women and young girls are helped to overcome extreme disadvantage through a comprehensive supported accommodation service and complex case management.

The safe house simultaneously advocates for systemic change to remove the barriers faced by individuals following exploitation. It utilises a unique survivor-led movement to achieve this. Case managers resource and help clients learn living skills, navigate complex legal and migration situations and break down language, employment and education barriers, in turn reducing vulnerability to further exploitation

"These trips are such a great way to take action to help others and meet like-minded people,” said Jenny Stanger, National Manager of the Freedom Partnership. “It feels like a holiday but with a huge purpose behind it and you will make new friends."

The Project Futures team will accompany walk participants through the Grampians. It's an area of rugged mountains with spectacular peaks, vast plains, waterfalls, unique and diverse native plants, animals, and ancient Aboriginal rock art sites.

The Grampians walk itinerary is:
Day 1: Halls Gap, Chatauqua Peak and Fyans Creek (8km)
Day 2: The Grand Canyon, the Pinnacle, Sundial Peak (12-15km)
Day 3: Zumsteins and MacKenzie Falls, Hollow Mountain or The Balconies (10km)

  1. Hi, Simone! It`s beautiful to see how something individual like love for hiking can bring people together for some great cause. Do you think campaigns like this can change the global opinion of a problem in a long term?
