Tribute - Valerie King

Captain Valerie King was promoted to glory on 18 April 2022, aged 86. She was called to her heavenly reward after faithfully serving in officership for over 64 years.

Valerie Lorraine King was born at Boothville Hospital, Windsor, in Brisbane, on 24 May 1935. She entered Officer Training College in March 1957 as a cadet of the Faithful session. Following her commissioning on 6 January 1958. Val spent three years at Caloundra Girls Home.

Val was then appointed to Arncliffe Girls Home for two years and Toowoomba Girls Home for three years. Other appointments were: Stanley Street Womens Home, Toowong Girls Home, Booth House Aged Care Sydney, Winderradeen House Womens Hostel (Sydney), and New Farm Aged Care (Brisbane).

After 18 years of officership, Val retired due to ill health and went back to Gympie, where on
27 September 1974, Valerie entered retirement. Val met Colin King on 1 January 1995, and they were married on 9 April 1995. And so began 27 years of happy married life.

In retirement, Val was active at Gympie Corps and in the community until her health began to fail. This meant she could not attend Sunday meetings but was very appreciative of the tapes she received.

Our love and prayers, along with our heartfelt sympathy, surround her husband Colin, her cousins Major Joyce Harmer, Major Daphne Cox, Keith Lipke, Joan Hilton, and Yvonne King and their families.

“Her master said to her, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant.
You have been faithful ... Enter into the joy of your master”
(Matthew 25:23)
