Perth bikers revved up for Salvos Christmas Appeal
15 December 2016
Australia’s longest running motorcycle charity event – the Perth Bikers Charity Ride – has been supporting The Salvation Army’s Christmas Appeal for the past four decades.
This year more than 2500 bikers participated in the 41st annual ride to show their heart for those in need. The charity ride began in 1975 and has been supporting the Salvos’ Christmas Appeal since 1976. Each biker that participated in this year’s event committed to bearing a gift for the appeal.
HBF Joondalup Arena was host to the festive atmosphere created by the annual Perth Bikers Charity Ride.
The event raised around $13,000, including toys, food and $6500 in cash donations. All toys and food donations are distributed before Christmas through The Salvation Army’s Perth Doorways Program. The ride has raised more than $2 million in donations for The Salvation Army over the past 40 years.
"Every year the event grows and we are always overwhelmed by the generosity and support from everyone who participates in this event," said Warren Palmer, Divisional Public Relations Secretary, Western Australia Division. "We are very blessed and thankful for what the PBCR do for us every year and appreciate the support they give us to help those in need in the community."
The procession of bikers left Lathlain Oval in Perth’s inner eastern suburbs and travelled the 36km highway route to HBF Joondalup Arena. A festival atmosphere included live entertainment, food and merchandise stalls.
