Thousands of Salvos across Australia have signed a Vision Commitment card, pledging to “live, love and fight alongside others to transform Australia one life at a time with the love of Jesus”.

The pledges have been made at the end of a six-week Vision Booster campaign, which involved corps, missions and social expressions focusing on each line of the Salvation Army’s new National Vision Statement.

The statement is: Wherever there is hardship or injustice, Salvos will live, love and fight alongside others to transform Australia one life at a time with the love of Jesus.

National Commander, Commissioner Floyd Tidd, says the coming weeks and months will be critical for the momentum of the vision to grow.

“Although the official booster campaign is over, I believe the boost to continue living our vision will come from one another as we share the stories of the impact and lives transformed by the love of Jesus,” he said.

“There is palpable excitement across the nation as we chat with Salvos living out the vision in their local settings. Let’s keep sharing those stories.”

Commissioners Floyd and Tracey Tidd spent Vision Commitment Sunday at a Salvation Army mission conference in Queensland. They renewed their soldiers’ covenants and signed the vision commitment card – registering themselves as committed to living out the vision in their postcode.

“We watch for and step into opportunities to engage with people in our local neighbourhood and activities. [Living our vision] is more simple than we sometimes make it out to be.

“Putting the vision in place – making it a part of our daily lives – starts with and ends with sharing the love of Jesus. That includes ensuring our own growing understanding and experience of the love of Jesus.”

Across Australia, commitment cards were signed, soldiership renewal took place and new soldiers and junior soldiers were enrolled.

“What is exciting is seeing the sense of connectedness that Salvos are feeling, regardless of where they live and the type of Salvation Army ministry expression they are involved in,” said Commissioner Floyd. “The invitation for all of us is to develop intentional action plans to see that vision realised. God has given us this vision. He will give us all that we need to achieve his mission for such a time as this.”
