Salvo motorcyclist enthusiasts revved up for the Gospel
26 November 2019
The Gospel comes in all shapes and sizes – it just happened to arrive on the back of a Harley Davidson at the sixth annual Salvation Army Motorcycle Ministry Run in Wagga Wagga.
Salvos from as far away as Rockhampton, Gold Coast, Coffs Harbour, Macksville, Bega, and Goulburn attended the annual run.
The Motorcycle Ministry Run was set up to give Salvation Army motorcycle enthusiasts a chance to catch up and encourage each other. Organisers decided to add some extra rev to this year’s run by hosting a community outreach event where they had the opportunity to share the love of Jesus.
“A different corps hosts the Motorcycle Ministry Run every year and feedback from last year was that we could improve by hosting a free barbecue to bless the community,” said Sharon Jones, a Motorcycle Ministry member and Team Leader for The Salvation Army Emergency Services in Wagga.
“It was a hit! We had more than 100 people come, grab a balloon and go for a swim. As soon as you mention motorcycles people gather. It’s not so much that we are Salvos – they gravitate towards motorcycles!”
People may come for motorcycles, but they stayed for the fellowship and were given an invitation to attend services on both Saturday and Sunday at Wagga Corps.
It also gave Motorcycle Ministry members – many of whom travelled up to two days to attend – a chance to worship together and encourage each other in their faith.
“This means so much for those of us who are at remote corps,” said Sharon. “We look forward to the next get-together.”
