Life to the full on the Bellarine Peninsula
Life to the full on the Bellarine Peninsula
18 June 2021
People on the Bellarine Peninsula and in the Greater Geelong area are thirsty for hope and help – and The Salvation Army is always ready to serve. But resourcing an army of volunteers takes more than willpower – it takes resources.
Like water, for instance.
Local business people, entrepreneurs and active Salvos like Tim and Alex Page-Walker, along with others from the Bellarine Salvos leadership team, have created their own brand of ‘fundraising water’. Aptly named ‘Life 2 The Full’, it is being stocked in stores and cafes across the region, with all proceeds going towards the mission of the Bellarine Salvos.
The name of the water was inspired by Bellarine Salvo, Spiritual Director Paul Spence, and the conceptual artwork by Salvo and school chaplain CJ Teuma.
“This is a way of spreading the word further out there around the community with The Salvation Army,” said Tim, who packages the water from his business, Drink X, in Crown Street, South Geelong.
“This is just something that’s really easy for us to do. Water is one of the big things that we do now, and putting it in a can is different – it’s pretty groundbreaking for the Salvos. So, when the idea came along as a good way to raise money, we were more than happy to help.”
All money raised from Life 2 The Full water will go directly towards the frontline mission of Bellarine Peninsula Salvos, which includes their holistic community development work: the outreach van, kids/youth work, art therapy, school chaplaincy, and the Strengthening Families Australia program. Importantly, the drink is environmentally friendly.
“We are really grateful to Tim and our team for this amazing contribution to our mission,” Captains Di and Peter Hobbs said. “We know this will bring life to the full to our community and beyond, through the funds raised.”
Bellarine Peninsula Salvos are no strangers to innovation. Last year, again with the support of the Page-Walkers, they produced and distributed hand sanitiser nationally amidst the COVID-19 pandemic-induced shortage.
“It’s amazing the innovation that comes when you take Jesus at his word and follow him,” Peter said. “Luke 10 tells us to stay with the people of peace. These people of peace who God has raised up from the harvest are now our corps family and the people we have stayed with. As promised in Luke 10, all resources needed are found in the harvest.”
Locals on the Bellarine Peninsula can buy Life 2 The Full water from the Salvos’ thrift shops on The Bellarine Hwy and Ocean Grove. Additionally, over 20 local cafes and businesses, including The Bungalow Restaurant and Divine Grind Coffee, are stockists – with more on the way.
And not to be outdone by location, anyone can purchase the life-giving water online for their own corps fundraising initiatives by visiting Salvo Stores online here. Wholesale prices are available. Please email peter.hobbs@salvationarmy.org.au for more info and discount promo codes.
