Day 10 – National Prayer Focus 2022

Cast your cares on the LORD and He will sustain you” Psalm 55:22.

The psalm makes it sound so simple, and yet it can be so hard. The needs of our community are relentless, and some days it feels like we are being asked to pour from an empty jug.

Compassion fatigue is something altogether different though. The challenge of listening and responding to stories of hardship and injustice over and over again without becoming jaded or overwhelmed is real. Emotional and spiritual exhaustion need much more than a good night’s sleep to overcome.

Even Jesus felt the need to take the disciples to a quiet place to rest (Mark 6:31).

So, what are we to do in the face of unrelenting needs? That empty jug has to be filled. However great the need of our communities, our need to find that quiet place, to be still and allow Jesus to sustain us, is equally great. Our call is to work with Jesus, and that means choosing to allow him to work with us.
