Seeking better rhythms
Seeking better rhythms

Day 14 – National Prayer Focus 2022
Do you remember playing on seesaws?
Teetertottering, bouncing skyward when playmates jumped on, crash-landing when they jumped off? Did you ever hover boldly in the middle, struggling to keep both ends up? Do you remember how difficult it was to stand still there?
Perfect balance is a myth. We’re not designed to stay static, holding our breath lest life dips out of alignment somewhere. Instead, God has crafted us for restorative life rhythms.
I’ve learned three important lessons in seeking better rhythms. The first is practising proactivity. If I don’t take control of my calendar, someone else will. Second, I’m learning the benefit of margin – a short processing space after meetings, five minutes to pray between tasks and having lunch away from my desk. Third, I’m embracing restorative recreation. For me, it’s stitching.
Will you join me today, inviting Jesus to teach us fresh restorative practices to renew mind and soul?
Reflection Questions
• Where in life is it most challenging for you to proactively schedule your time?
• If you had an uninterrupted hour to spend in a restorative activity (other than sleep), what would it be?
