Day 19 – National Prayer Focus 2022
In my childhood, I attended Sunday School and sometimes the story of Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well was taught. I learned that the woman was the worst of sinners, but despite that, God loved EVEN her.
We don’t see Jesus in this story as a triumphalist who drove a fancy car, listening to a leadership podcast as he asks the woman to fill in a card for church membership. Rather the woman’s gifts were present as she met Jesus’ request for water.
This simple act led way to a conversation that changed her life. Her testimony of revelation led to Samaritans inviting Jesus to come and stay with them, which he did.
I don’t believe it’s a coincidence that the woman’s spiritual transformation occurred when she experienced radical acceptance.
Reflection Questions
• Am I part of an inclusive community in which I offer such compassion and kindness that people are transformed by the very presence of Christ in me?
• Do people experience such grace in my spiritual community that in their excitement to tell others of what they have seen and heard they ‘leave behind their water jugs’?
