Salvos voices invited to the decision-making table
Salvos voices invited to the decision-making table
2 December 2022
An invitation has been issued to Salvos across the Australia Territory to submit expressions of interest in becoming a Board or Committee member.
The Salvation Army is calling for senior soldiers and adherents who are active and engaged corps members to submit their interest by 1 February 2023 for positions on the Board and its Committees such as:
• Audit and Risk Committee (ARC)
• Professional Standards Committee (PSC)
• Quality and Safety Committee (QSC)
“This is an opportunity to be a part of the governance of The Salvation Army in Australia,” explains Liz Cruickshank, Secretary to the Property Trusts. “The Board was established four years ago. It consists of non-executive Salvation Army officers, non-executive Salvationists, and independent directors. It sets strategy and governs the work of The Salvation Army in Australia. We are looking for soldiers and adherents who believe they can contribute to the good governance of the movement as potential future members.”
Soldiers and adherents can provide important voices at the Board and Committee level because of the perspectives and skills they bring to the table. It also provides congregation members with an opportunity to learn more about the movement and contribute to the governance of The Salvation Army through participation.
The successful candidates will attend all bi-monthly Board meetings and contribute to the governance of the movement or attend all quarterly Committee meetings.
The Board: The role of the Board is to provide governance oversight to the Australia Territory in accordance with Australian law, all requirements under the International Headquarters’ Orders and Regulations and the governance principles for the Australia Territory.
Audit and Risk Committee: The purpose is to ensure the integrity of the financial statements, the risk management framework, and the system of internal controls such as these align with The Salvation Army’s values and meet its legislative and regulatory obligations.
Professional Standards Committee: The purpose is to define and promote within The Salvation Army a world’s best practice response to allegations of abuse and ensure The Salvation Army is actively enhancing child safety within the Australian community.
Quality and Safety Committee: The purpose is to define and promote a culture of continuous quality improvement and consumer safety that aligns with The Salvation Army’s values and meets legislative and regulatory obligations.
“There is one governing body for the movement, and this is it,” Liz explains. “We currently have soldiers on the Board, one from Hobart Corps and one from Carindale Corps. What we want to be able to do is tap into the pool of Salvationists who can bring different skills and experiences to the Board and its Committees.”
