Book Review: Urban Apologetics by Eric Mason

8 February 2022

In his book, Urban Apologetics, Eric Mason brings the church up to speed on the legitimate issues that blacks have with Western Christianity.

The words ‘restoring black dignity’ on the cover of this book caught my attention first. And I was not disappointed because this book has clarified many questions that have burdened my heart for some time about diverse black communities.

Eric Mason shares great insight into spiritual healing for individuals in diverse black communities across the world, not just the African-American community. He explains why restoring black dignity is a much-needed topic that needs to be delved into. He also explores why black people are leaving the Church and discusses why we need to be fed and discipled so that we are holistically healed and remain strong in the identity of our ethnic and eternal origins. Mason also offers solutions and challenges us to arm and equip ourselves to win black people back to the Church and to Christ – not to win arguments.

On completion of reading this book, I believe that Eric Mason exposes great learnt and experienced insight, wisdom, and knowledge. This is reinforced by both academic and biblical literature, and he challenges and declares the same as the author of 2 Timothy 2:15, “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that need not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

Highly recommended!

Urban Apologetics is available online and at Koorong.
