Christmas Music Wrap-up - 2022

20 December 2022

Christian pop singer Tasha Layton brings comfort and joy with her album, This Is Christmas.

By Jessica Morris

Are you tired of spinning the same classic Christmas music every year? If you want something fresh to listen to as you bake cookies (or eat them!), then Others Online writer Jessica Morris has rounded up some of the best holiday music of the season. Are you ready to hit play?

This Is Christmas by Tasha Layton

Pop singer Tasha Layton is a soaring vocalist, and in her delightful new album, she mixes the whimsy and fun of the holidays with reflections of faith. This music is ideal for people of all ages, as Tasha captures the childlike excitement of the season in ‘Diddly Squat’ yet holds a reverence in ‘Sacred Night’. With the inclusion of originals and classic Christmas tunes, this is a mix of what is fresh and beloved about the season.

Available online and at Christian bookstores.

From Seed to Sequoia by Benjamin William Hastings

Northern Irish musician Benjamin William Hastings spent a decade living in Australia as a member of Hillsong UNITED. And on this short but profound Christmas EP, he delivers an intuitive and mesmerising take on the season. Benjamin’s vocals are soothing and ethereal, which makes the slower tunes great for personal devotions. Happily, he has re-recorded his version of Hillsong’s ‘Seasons’, which he wrote. And he also gives the nod to classics like ‘I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas’, which seems appropriate given his global relocation!

Available online via streaming platforms.

At This Table by Selah

Christian Music great Selah is known for modernising and sharing hymns with the world. At This Table is their first original Christmas record in years, and it will be a crowd favourite. Opening with the stunning orchestral title track, vocalist Amy Perry shines as she tells the story of God’s inclusive, loving, compassionate heart. And the gems keep coming with their perfectly harmonised versions of ‘Away in a Manger’ and ‘It Came Upon a Midnight Clear’.

Available online and streaming exclusively on Amazon.

Milk and Cookies: A Merry Crowder Christmas by Crowder

Many people will remember Crowder from his days fronting the high-energy David Crowder band, and in this time, he released many a Christmas tune. In Milk and Cookies, he returns and gives his independent, rock-styled take on traditional carols and Christmas classics like ‘Carol of the Bells’. Expect lots of whimsy and fun, plus some worship that merges powerfully with Crowder’s incredible rock-styled vocals.

Available online and at Christian bookstores.
