Music Review: III Live by Hillsong Young & Free

The latest album from Hillsong’s youth expression was recorded live at Hillsong Conference 2019.

Young, energetic, full of passion – the live recording of Young and Free’s album III Live is exactly what you expect from Hillsong’s youth expression.

Teens and young adults will enjoy all 16 of these tracks (that’s right, count them!) including the exuberant ‘Let Go’ and ‘Love Won’t Let Me Down’.

III Live is different from your average Hillsong recording because its youth band uses eclectic and modern sounds to engage the new generation.

Their high-quality vocals and theologically sound lyrics are enough to facilitate a conversation around a deepening relationship with God, but in a simple manner that makes the music approachable.

Older listeners will enjoy their fresh take on ‘Jesus Loves Me’, while teens trying to find God amidst their own struggles will find meaning in tracks like ‘Highs and Lows’ and ‘PEACE’.

Throw in a couple of songs led by Brooke Ligertwood of Hillsong Worship and Chris Tomlin, and this is a solid live recording that emphasises the fact Hillsong is still a global leader in worship music three decades after the mega-church’s journey began.

These songs are suited to a younger church, focused on engaging teens, young adults and young families.

Not everyone will be able to sing these songs without getting breathless, but to be honest the youth jumping at the front won’t notice anyway.

III Live is available online and at Koorong.
