Thought Matters Conference
Thought Matters Conference
Date: 17th August 2012 4:30pm - 19th August 2012 1:00pm
Location: Collaroy, Sydney
Thought Matters is the second conference by this name but continues a history of conferences presented by the Tri-Territorial Theological Forum (TTTF) in New Zealand and Australia. Each conference addresses a different theme, established under the direction of the leaders of each of the three territories.
The TTTF was established to facilitate theological discussion which informs ministry practice. It is composed of nine members representing each of the contributing territories – Australia Eastern, Australia Southern and New Zealand, Fiji and Tonga.
This year's conference will be held on 17th-19th August at The Collaroy Centre in Sydney.
2012 Conference Theme
The theme - “Vision for the Lost or a Lost Vision?” stems from a desire to consider The Salvation Army’s theology and ministry practice 100 years on from the death of William Booth, which occurred on the 20 August, 1912.
The TTTF is calling for papers that will address a range of issues relevant to this conference theme. Papers of a Biblical Studies, Theological, Historical, or Interdisciplinary nature are all welcomed. Possible topics may include, but are not limited to:
- Articulating William Booth’s “vision for the lost”.
- Recapture, Redefine or Redeploy a “vision for the lost” in the 21st Century.
- Seeing the “submerged tenth” today.
- In the light of the dramatic cultural shifts of the last 100 years, can William Booth’s late 19th Century, Victorian vision continue to bear meaning in a 21st Century, post-modern society?
- A critical comparison of William Booth’s vision and more recent vision statements.
- A vision for the lost or a vision of the lost. Engaging the lost in the Army’s mission.
Abstracts of no more than 200 words should be submitted by March 1, 2012 (download proposal template here). Please email abstracts to jemila.isaacs@aue.salvationarmy.org. Successful applicants will be notified by April 1, 2012 and will subsequently need to submit their final paper (2500 words) by July 1, 2012. Conference Proceedings will be published following the conference.
