Recovery Services Day of Prayer
Recovery Services Day of Prayer
Date: 31st July 2014
Location: Australia Eastern Territory
“Living one day at a time” is one of the most used phrases in Recovery communities. The Salvation Army's Recovery Services value the simplicity of this saying. It can be so hard that sometimes that means breaking down the day to “one hour at a time.”
Jesus himself said, “Sufficient for the day is its own trouble,” Matthew 6:34.
The Salvation Army's Recovery Services are committing to 24 hours of prayer on 31 July. They are asking individuals across the territory to set aside this day and night, if possible, to pray. As one territory, Recovery Services ask that individuals pray for the needs of people who are isolated, lonely and trapped in their addictions.
We ask that you commit to pray for people in our Recovery programs:
I will pray that Jesus will be the healer: “He has sent me to bind up the broken-hearted ...” Isaiah 61:1.
I will pray that Jesus will bring his light: “ ... release from darkness for the prisoners,” Isaiah 61:1.
I will pray that Jesus will bring freedom: “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free,” John 8:32.
I will pray that Jesus restores lives: “ ... I have come that they may have life and have it to the full,” John 10:10.
I will pray that Jesus would show people who they belong to: “For I have bought you and made you free. I have called you by name. You are mine!” Isaiah 43:1.
I will pray that Jesus will rescue people from self-sufficiency: “There is no happiness in me! Who can set me free from my sinful old self?” Romans 7:24.
We now ask that you commit to pray for yourself:
Could you pray that Jesus would remind you?: “For all me have sinned, and have need to the glory of God,” Romans 3:23.
Could you pray that Jesus would show new things?: “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know,” Jeremiah 33:3.
Could you pray that Jesus would help you to reach out and make new connections with those who may have never experienced the safety and sense of belonging that comes from being in a loving community?: “... And I will have mercy on her who had not obtained mercy; then I will say to those who were not my people, you are my people! And they will say you are my God!" Hosea 2:23.
Could you pray that Jesus would include you in this work?: “He creates each of us by Christ Jesus to join him in the work he does,” Ephesians 2:10.
Could you pray that Jesus would help you to welcome people in recovery into your church community?: “They worshiped together at the Temple… and shared their meals with great joy and generosity ... And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved,” Acts 2:46, 47.
