Meet Cindy Roehrig, Messengers of the Kingdom
How did you know you were being called to officership?
The calling to officership for me came more from the feelings and emotion I felt when I shared the gospel, when I got to spend time one-on-one with someone, when I got to see the smile on someone’s face after just being present for them. I knew in those moments that God would and could use me in those small moments for me to make bigger moments for others.
What has been challenging about your training?
I learnt a whole heap about myself and the person I want to be, and I was not expecting to be challenged in that way. It was very scary to look within, when I was used to helping others as a way of hiding my imperfections. This experience was hard but worth it, and I am a stronger person for it.
Has it been different to your expectations?
Everyone tries to prepare you for college by sharing their experiences with you, but if anything that blurred my expectations so much that I didn’t know what to expect. I never expected the experience to change and shape me in the ways it has. I am very grateful for the support along the way from the Officer Formation Stream and other external networks and relationships.
What has been the most rewarding part of your training?
The most rewarding experience has been the connections with sessional mates and their continued support over the journey we have shared together.
How has God stretched you during the past two years?
The stretching has come in the form of new experiences, new ways of doing ministry, and just a whole new perspective of what church is and can be.
What is one important lesson you have learnt?
That self-care is essential to be a healthy, selfless person.
Where have you been appointed during your cadetship?
I was appointed to Kingston City Corps (Vic), Mooroolbark Corps (Vic.) and Dandenong Magistrates Court (Vic.) for placement, then cadet in appointment at Inverell Corps (NSW). But I also had experience at Boronia Corps (Vic.) and Greensborough Corps (Vic.) throughout my husband’s training period.
