Salvation Army officers and other personnel who have suffered the loss of a loved one.
• Major Anne Jeffrey’s brother Peter Gannaway passed away after a courageous battle with cancer in the early hours of Monday 15 November in Perth. Peter is survived by two young sons, Jack and Kai, and three sisters – Lisa, Kay and Anne. Please keep the family in your prayers at this time.
• Captain Robyn Collins has been bereaved of her father Harold Scotney on Tuesday 2 November 2021, aged 100 years and eight months. Please cover Major Robyn and her family in your prayers.
• Our love and prayers surround Major Joyce Olaisen on the promotion to glory of her sister Alice Helps on Wednesday 3 November, aged 94 years.
• After a difficult journey with cancer, Warren Kearns, son of Majors Ethel and Graeme Kearns passed away on Saturday 16 October. Warren was also a nephew to Majors Dorothy and Keith Reynolds, a cousin to Captains Colin and Phuong Reynolds and brother to Roslyn (Adrian) and Bronwyn. Warren passed away peacefully at Wantirna Health. He was 62 years old. The love and prayers of Salvationists in Australia, but also particularly in Indonesia, where Majors Ethel and Graeme served for many years, surround the Kearns family at this time. Please continue to cover Majors Ethel and Graeme and their family in your love and prayers.
• Lieut-Colonel Lucille Turfrey’s brother David, was Promoted to Glory aged 93 in the last week of October 2021. Please remember Lieut-Colonel Lucille in your prayers at this time.
• Please pray for Major Barb Wilson, Ken and their family on the unexpected loss of their son Russell Wilson on Saturday morning 23 October 2021 after suffering a heart attack. Russell was a brother and a father.
• Our prayers and support are with Captain Karen Harrison and her family: her father Brian, her siblings Kerrie and Sean and the extended family and friends, on the promotion to glory of her mum, Denise Harrison, on Saturday 9 October at Northmead, Sydney.
• Our love and prayers cover Major David Bartlett and family on the passing of his brother Allan on 14 October.
• Envoy Ted Wright was bereaved of his beloved wife Judy Wright on 12 October 2021. Judy was a part of the team that planted the Campbelltown Corps (SA) in the early 1960s and for over 30 years voluntarily ran the All Victorious Program where she worked specifically with people who struggled with addiction, many of whom experienced freedom from addiction and were powerfully saved by Jesus. Please keep Envoy Ted, Kathryn (General Manager AOD), Matthew, Trevor, John and Judy’s extended family in your prayers during this time.
• Major Julia Price is bereaved of her mother. She passed away in Volgograd, Russia, on Saturday 18 September 2021 at the age of 61.
• Mrs Pat Smith, the mother of Major Carole Smith, was promoted to glory on Sunday 26 September 2021. Our heartfelt sympathy is extended to Keith, Carole, family and friends. Please remember the family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
• Our love and prayers surround Major Christine Cutts on the passing of her daughter Lynley Perese last weekend.
• After a long illness with cancer, Sandra Inkster, sister of Major Marilyn Edwards, passed away on Sunday 26 September. As we remember them in prayer, our heartfelt sympathy is extended to Major Marilyn and her sister Sandra’s family.
• The mother of Major Wendy Friend, Hazel Irene Williams, was promoted to glory, aged 94, on Friday 3 September 2021 from Maurice Zeffert Aged Care Home in Dianella, Western Australia. She became a soldier at Subiaco Corps with her then-husband Ron Hense. Ron Hense was promoted to glory in 1993. Hazel later attended Morley Corps before she was placed in a nursing home when she could no longer care for herself.
• Major Kerrie Farthing is in our thoughts and prayers with the promotion to glory of her mother, Salvationist Sister Mrs Betty Gale of Highfields near Toowoomba on Monday 13 September 2021. Our love and sympathy are extended to all the family, including her grandsons Captain Paul Farthing, Captain Philip Farthing and granddaughter Claire Hill of the Mission Resources Team.
• Mrs May Gluyas, aged 83, went to heaven on 27 August 2021. May is survived by her husband Les, and her children, Miriam, Wayne, Leanne and Philip. What a ‘clan’ she has left, with so many grandchildren and great-grandchildren (including Matthew and his family). She was a beautiful, kind lady, much loved and now so missed, but her legacy lives on through a family, who loved her deeply and were amazingly blessed to have her in their lives. Our prayers and deepest sympathy are extended to the Gluyas family at this tender time.
• Joan Woods, wife of Envoy Lionel Woods (dec.), was promoted to glory on Sunday 8 August 2021. Lionel and Joan were once officers having trained in the Courageous session. Please remember the Woods family in prayer during this time.
• Brian Mundy aged 80, and who with his wife Heather served as officers from the Messengers of the Faith session for over 30 years, was promoted to glory on Saturday 7 August 2021. Our prayers and sympathies are extended to Heather, Raymond and Chris, Susan, Russell and Beth, Andrew and Katrina and grandchildren Amelia, Stephen, Joseph, Kristy-Ann and Grace.
• Major Steven O’Neill is bereaved of his mother Shirley O’Neill who recently passed away. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private funeral was held on Friday 16 July 2021. Please uphold Majors Steven and Margaret O’Neill, family, extended family, and friends during this tender time.
• Christine Holman, a former Australian officer, was promoted to glory on 1 July 2021. A memorial service will be held in Mount Gambier once COVID restrictions ease. Warren and Christine, owing to her ill health, resigned from officership 10 years ago. Warren, who has now been diagnosed with early-onset dementia, and his family would appreciate your prayers during this difficult time and for the days ahead.
• Mrs Ivy Wesener (nee Knowles) aged 99 years 7 months (Pine Mountain, Qld), was promoted to glory on Thursday 8 July 2021. She was grandmother to Captain Dominic Wallis (ACT) and Lieutenant Marika Haupt (NSW). Ivy is survived by her husband Fred (100 years old), five children, 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. On Monday 19 July 2021, Major Rodney Strong conducted the service at BundambaCorps, where family and friends gathered to reflect on Ivy’s life.
• Mrs Norma Elsley, aged 79 years, from Lismore (NSW) was promoted to glory from The Gold Coast University Hospital on Sunday 4 July 2021. Norma is survived by her husband, Kevin and children: Stephen Elsley (with Karen); Sharon Eades; Major Darren Elsley (with Major Leanne) Nerida Auld (with Tony) and her sisters Envoy Gwenda Staines and Major Lyn Middleton (with Ken),16 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
• Major Anne Gumuna (husband Major Ragana) is bereaved of her mother, Mrs Hazel Vickery, who was promoted to glory on Saturday 19 June, aged 100. Major Jean George is a niece of Hazel.
• Major Kingsley Cochrane and Major Ron Cochrane were bereaved of their sister Rosalea Webb on Monday 10 May 2021 (sister-in-law to Major Margaret Cochrane and Major Lyn Cochrane). Our prayers and thoughts are with the Cochrane family. May they know God’s love, mercy and grace through the support of extended family, colleagues and friends.
• Majors Dulcie and Ken Parnell were bereaved of Dulcie’s mother, Dulcie Reeve, who passed away from her nursing home in Launceston on Tuesday 11 May 2021. Our thoughts and prayers are with Majors Dulcie and Ken at this tender time.
• Major Yvonne Henderson was bereaved of her mother, Coral Lillian Harper, on Wednesday 5 May 2021 from Cowra, NSW. Our thoughts and prayers are with Yvonne and her two sisters, Debbie and Janelle. Coral’s funeral service, conducted by Major Ed Henderson, was held at the Cowra Presbyterian Church at 10am on 19 May 2021.
• Major Nigel Roden’s mother Lenore Roden (nee’ Hambly) passed away peacefully and comfortably after a sudden medical complication on Saturday afternoon, 27 March. She was surrounded by her family and they were able to spend time with her over her final days. She will be deeply missed by her husband Frank, sons Nigel and Simon and their families. A Celebration Service for the life of Lenore, conducted by Captain BJ Molder, was held at The Salvation Army Capricorn Region Corps on Monday 5 April.
• Thoughts and prayers are with Captains Bronwyn and Ashley Barkmeyer and Cadet Peter Hardy on the promotion to glory of their father, father-in-law and grandfather, Brother (Walter) Kevin Corkett on Saturday 6 March 2021. Kevin was born into a Salvation Army family and was a committed soldier who is remembered for his love for God and his family. Kevin was known for his humble and faithful service to his Father. Prayers would be appreciated for Kevin’s wife, Marie, his four children Narelle Kuiper, Stephen Corkett, Bronwyn Barkmeyer (Captain) and Bradley Corkett along with their families including 11 (soon to be 12) grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
• Thoughts and prayers are with Brigadier Dorothy Smyth, Aux Captains Ron and Margaret Stephens, and Major Mel Stephens on the promotion to glory of their brother in law, Bill Isberg, on Sunday 10 January 2020. Bill was also Uncle to Territorial Envoys Danni and Craig Stephens. Prayers would be appreciated for Bill’s wife Jean and daughters Deborah (Debbie) Tweedie, Sharron Isberg and Julianne Winchester and their families including five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
• Kenneth Norman Palmer was unexpectedly promoted to glory in Canberra on 13 January 2021. Your prayers for his wife Mavis and children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren would be appreciated. A celebration of Ken’s life was held at the Tuggeranong Corps. Ken was the much-loved father of Major Vicki Clarke and grandfather of Lieutenant Jacqueline Gluyas.
• Major Denice Strong is bereaved of her brother, Ivan Ardrey from melanoma cancer. Ivan passed away on 11 January 2021. Our love, sympathy and prayers are with Denice, her family and friends at this tender time.
• Colonel Karyn Rigley was bereaved of her mother, Sister Grace Joy Whitehead, on 10 January 2021. The funeral, conducted by Colonel Graeme Rigley, was held on Thursday 14 January, at Arndale Salvation Army.
• Our thoughts and prayers are with Major Andrew Craib on the passing of his father, William Craib, at Albany, Western Australia on 3 January 2021. A celebration of William’s life was held on Friday 22 January, at The Salvation Army, Albany Corps. Our prayer for Andrew & Sandy and the family is that they might know the peace of God which passes all understanding.
• Major Jennifer Cloke was bereaved of her brother, Graham Hannan, on Sunday 3 January 2021. A funeral service for Graham, prepared by Jennifer, will be conducted and live-streamed for the family in Victoria. Our sympathy and prayers are with Jennifer, Graham’s wife Julie and extended family and friends at this time.
