Salvation Army officers and personnel who have been promoted to glory:
Major Barbara Mouchemore was promoted to glory on Saturday 18 December, aged 76. Our love, sympathy and prayers are with her husband Bryce and family, Fleur and Darren, Rebecca and Andrew, Simon and Tamara and grandchildren Isobel, Amelie, Lachlan, Max and Sebastian. As well as to the extended family and friends.
Major Wilga Morris was promoted to glory on Sunday 19 December, aged 87. Our love and prayers, along with our heartfelt sympathy, surrounds Brian and Helen, Valerie, Duncan and Colleen, Colonels Winsome and Kelvin and their families.
Major Phyllis Hughes was promoted to glory on Wednesday 1 December 2021, aged 92, after a long battle with dementia. Our love and prayers, along with our heartfelt sympathy, cover and surround Phyllis’s surviving children – Frances, Wendy, Greg, and Derek; her grandchildren: Carolyn, Timothy, Ben, Rachal, Sarah, Troy, Melissa, Ashleigh, Katherine, Emma, Caitlin, Christopher, Meagan, Liam, Brittany and great-grandchildren. A public Thanksgiving Service for the life of Phyllis will be held on Monday 20 December 2021 at The Salvation Army, Caloundra Corps at 4pm conducted by Commissioner James Condon.
Lieut-Colonel Rusty Adams was promoted to glory on Sunday 14 November 2021, aged 90. A Thanksgiving Celebration was held at Waverley Temple Corps.
Major Paul Winter was promoted to glory on Saturday 13 November 2021, aged 78 years. A Thanksgiving Celebration was held at Moreland City Corps.
Lieut-Colonel Evelyn Jean Rigley was promoted to glory from Hermitage Aged Care Home in Ellenbrook, Perth, on Sunday 24 October 2021, aged 91, after 68 years of faithful officership.
Major Arthur Dixon was promoted to glory on Sunday 26 September 2021, aged 96.
Major Beverley Stinton was promoted to glory on 19 September 2021, aged 92.
Captain Nancye Bowler was promoted to glory on Saturday 14 August 2021, aged 79. Our prayers and heartfelt sympathies are extended to her son Dean and close family friends Mark Stiles, Moira Dunne and families at this time.
Major Lionel Beasley was promoted to glory on 29 July 2021. He was 90 years old. Our love and prayers along with our heartfelt sympathy covers Joanne, Robert and their families.
Major Ella Beer was promoted to glory on 27 July 2021. She was 85 years old. Our love and prayers along with our heartfelt sympathy covers Ken, David, Paul, Louise and their families.
Major Bruce Hodges was peacefully promoted to glory on 25 July 2021. He was 77 years old. Our heartfelt prayers, love and sympathy covers Major Lillian, Fiona, Rusty, Graham, Brad and their families.
Brigadier Susie Uzzell, a humble woman of God, was promoted to glory at Macquarie Lodge Arncliffe on Thursday 8 July 2021. Brigadier Susie entered heaven at 99 years of age. Our heartfelt sympathy, love and prayers cover her Nephew John and their families.
Major Stan Hindle, aged 82 years, was promoted to glory on Sunday 11 July 2021. Stan, whose motto was “Some wish to live within the sound of church or chapel bell; I want to run a rescue shop within a yard of hell”, was brother to Major Bram, Peter, Major Jean Herron, and Roma Davy. We extend our heartfelt sympathy and cover with prayer Major Connie, Leanne, David, John, Colin, their families, and extended families.
Major Colin Leggett aged 92 years, was promoted to glory, peacefully from his home at Blue Cross, Ivanhoe (Vic.) on Thursday 15 July 2021. Our heartfelt prayers and sympathies are extended to Major Norma, Peter, David, Judi and their partners, grandchildren and great-grandchildren at this tender time. A Thanksgiving service for Major Colin’s life and ministry was held on Wednesday 21 July 2021.
Major Wilfred James Baker was promoted to glory on 3 July 2021. He was 90 years old. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Major Phyl, Ken, Beverley, May, family, extended family and friends. A celebration of Major Bill’s life will be held Saturday 17 July 2021 commencing at 10am, at Floreat Salvation Army (WA). The Thanksgiving Service will be conducted by Major Lyn Jones.
Major Hazel Smith was promoted to glory on 7 July 2021. She was surrounded by family who had spent the morning with her. While we are saddened by her passing, we have the assurance that she is healed and whole and worshipping the God she dedicated her life to. Please continue to uphold Major Colin, Catherine, Craig, Sarah, Peter, Sue and Mark in your prayers.
Envoy Joan Blessington, was promoted to glory on Saturday 12 June 2021. She was 93 years of age. A celebration of her life and service, (including service in Papua New Guinea with her husband Envoy Matthew), was held Friday 18 June at The Salvation Army, Bonnells Bay Corps. Our heartfelt sympathy, thoughts and prayers are extended to Envoy Joan’s family and friends at this time.
Major William (Bill) Henry Hambleton was promoted to glory at 6.20am on Sunday 13 June 2021. After an extended period of illness, Bill is finally at peace. He was 85 years of age. Our love and prayers along with our heartfelt sympathy covers Major Marie, Lisa and Major John Hindle, Andrew and Paula Hambleton and their families. A celebration of Major Bill’s life was held Friday 18 June 2021 at The Salvation Army, Carindale Corps.
Lieut-Colonel Elizabeth Adams was promoted to glory at 2.10pm on Wednesday 16 June 2021. She was 89 years of age. Our love, prayers, and heartfelt sympathy surround Lt Colonel Rusty, Major Miriam Adams, Jacqueline and Kevin Ames, Robin Adams, John and Wendy Adams, and their families. A celebration of Lieut-Colonel Elizabeth’s life, to be conducted by Lieut-Colonel Stuart Reid and Major Miriam Adams, will be held Monday 28 June 2021 commencing at 10.30am, at The Salvation Army,Waverley Temple Corps, 958 High St Road, Glen Waverley.
Major Mavis Everett was unexpectedly promoted to glory on Sunday 20 June 2021. She was 91 years of age. Our love, prayers and heartfelt sympathy are with Major Brian, Eleanor, Gillian, Geoffrey, and partners, together with their seven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. A celebration of Major Mavis’ life, to be conducted by Lt Colonel Stuart Reid, will be held Friday 9 July at The Salvation Army, Waverley Temple Corps, 958 High St Road, Glen Waverley.
Commissioner Wesley Harris was promoted to glory from his home at Livingstone Gardens, Vermont South (Vic.) on Friday 14 May 2021. He was 92 years old. Our love sympathy and prayers are with Margaret, Peter, Christine, their families, extended family, and friends. May God bring comfort to those who mourn his passing, confident in the knowledge that Wesley is now with his Lord and Master for whom he lived, all the days of his life.
Auxiliary-Captain Irene Farr was promoted to glory from her home at Riverview Gardens (Qld) on Monday 19 April 2021. She was 92 years old. Our love, sympathy and prayers are with family and friends honouring Irene’s life. May God bring comfort to those who mourn her passing, confident in the knowledge that Irene is now with her Lord and Master. Major Stella Green was promoted to glory from her home in Bankstown (NSW) on Tuesday 23 March 2021. She was 94 years old. Our love, sympathy and prayers are extended to family, Marge and Gordon Turner, as well as her many friends. May God bring comfort to those who mourn her passing, confident in the knowledge that Stella is now with her Lord and Master. The funeral service celebrating the life and service of Major Stella was conducted by Lieut-Colonel Laurie Robertson on Thursday 1 April at The Salvation Army Campsie.
Captain Roy Wenham was promoted to glory from his home in Bundaberg (Qld) on Monday 15 March 2021. He was 84 years old. Our love, sympathy and prayers are with Doreen, Keith, Lynda, Malcolm, Neil and Shaun, their families, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family. May God bring comfort to those who mourn his passing, confident in the knowledge that Roy is now with his Lord and Master. The funeral service for Captain Roy, conducted by Major Peter Pearson, was held on Friday 19 March 2021 at Bundaberg Citadel.
Major Glen Roy Williams was promoted to glory from his home in Lota, Queensland, on Wednesday 3 February 2021, aged 85. Glen is survived by his wife Margaret and children; Captain Gai Cathcart, (Representative RSDS SA - with Captain Peer Cathcart); Captain Adele Williams, (Corps Officer Maryborough Corps - Qld) and John Williams (with Sharon), (Manager Salvation Army Soundpoint Centre Goodna - QLD). Glen’s six grandchildren and extended family remember him with deep affection. A Christian gentleman, kind and patient, Glen was faithful in his service to Jesus, and loyal to The Salvation Army. He was gifted and talented and known for his encouragement and support to younger officers. Glen certainly lived his life in worship. All glory to God. The Thanksgiving Service for Major Glen Williams was held on Friday 12 February 2021, at The Salvation Army Bayside Community Church, Alexandra Hills Queensland.
Major Evelyn White, who resided at Bethany Aged Care Plus, Port Macquarie NSW, was promoted to glory at 88 years of age on Monday 1 February 2021. Our love, sympathy and prayers are with family and friends as they mourn the passing of Evelyn Rose White. The funeral service, conducted by Major Sue McGuigan, will be held 1pm Friday 5 February 2021 at The Salvation Army Port Macquarie.
Major Marguerite Hopkins, surrounded by her loving family, was promoted to glory from her home at Elermore Vale (NSW) on Wednesday 27 January 2021. Marge was 99 years old. Our love, sympathy and prayers are with Gwenda, Anne, Graham and Donald, their families, extended family and friends. The funeral service for Major Marge will be held 2pm, Monday 8 February 2021, at the Newcastle Worship and Community Centre, 67 Cleary Street, Hamilton NSW 2303.
Major Mavis Gilbert was promoted to glory on 10 January 2021 from her home at Riverview Gardens, Queensland. She was 90 years of age. Our love, sympathy and prayers are with friends honouring Mavis’ life. The funeral service for Major Mavis, conducted by Major Rodney Strong, was held on Monday 18 January at The Salvation Army Bundamba Corps.
