Tribute - Bill Hambleton

Major William (Bill) Henry Hambleton was promoted to glory after a long period of illness on Sunday morning 13 June 2021. He was 85 years of age.

Bill was born in Brisbane on 27 January 1936 in Australia. In 1963, he entered The Salvation Army Officer Training College as a cadet in the Heroes of the Faith session Sydney.

After Commissioning, Lieutenant Bill Hambleton married Marie Sampson on 15 January 1966 and they ministered together in officership. They were blessed with two children – Lisa and Andrew.

Bill loved the missional heart of The Salvation Army. His home corps was Maryborough (Qld). He served as an officer at Botany Corps, Dalby Corps, Goulburn Boys Home, Salisbury Corps, Redcliffe Corps, Territorial Headquarters and retired from active service at Canberra Welfare Services.

Following retirement in December 1994, Bill and Marie moved to Queensland where they continued to be involved in ministry.

Our love and prayers along with our heartfelt sympathy cover Major Marie, Lisa and Major John Hindle, Andrew and Paula Hambleton and their families.

A celebration of Major Bill’s life will be held on Friday 18 June 2021, commencing at 1.30pm, at Carindale Salvation Army, 202 Gallipoli Rd, Carina. The service will be followed by light refreshments.
