Tribute - Elizabeth Adams

Lieutenant-Colonel Elizabeth Adams was promoted to glory on Wednesday 16 June 2021. She was 89 years of age.

Elizabeth was born on 25 November 1931 in Forest Hill, London, England. She married Russell ‘Rusty’ Adams on 25 November 1950. Migrating from England in 1959, Elizabeth and Rusty, with their young family, soldiered at the Bendigo Corps in Northern Victoria, serving as Local Officers and Divisional Envoys. In 1961, they took command of the Collingwood Corps before entering Training College in Melbourne in 1962, in the Servants of Christ session.

Following their commissioning, Elizabeth and Rusty shared in ministry over the years in varied appointments, including eight years of corps appointments in Tasmania. Firstly at Ulverstone, then a new corps plant at Howrah before a term at Burnie.

Victorian corps appointments included Ferntree Gully, Mooroolbark and Northcote, followed by a transfer to Floreat Park Corps in Western Australia.

In 1981, Elizabeth and Rusty moved into youth and children’s work in South Australia. The emphasis of their youth ministry was on leadership training and discipleship, with a bias towards leadership in the Army.

The leadership of the Camberwell Corps preceded Elizabeth’s appointment as Territorial Nurses Fellowship Secretary, with additional responsibilities as Program for Growth Resource Officer.

This commenced a series of administrative appointments – Territorial Guard Organiser, Divisional Director of Womens Organisation in Northern Victoria, and Assistant Candidate's Secretary.

Elizabeth and Rusty entered retirement on 8 January 1997. From there, they soldiered at the Waverley Corps and remained active in ministry.

Our love and prayers, along with our heartfelt sympathy, covers Rusty, Major Miriam Adams, Jacqueline and Kevin Ames, Robin Adams, John and Wendy Adams, and their families.

A celebration of Lieut-Colonel Elizabeth Adams’ life will be held on Monday 28 June 2021, commencing at 11am, at Waverley Salvation Army, and will be conducted by Lieut-Colonel Stuart Reid and Major Miriam Adams.
