Tribute - Major Paul Winter

Major Paul Winter walked with his Lord to his eternal reward on Saturday 13 November 2021, aged 78.

Paul was born on 15 January 1943. He entered Officer Training College on 10 March 1964 as a cadet in the Proclaimers of the Faith session and was commissioned as a lieutenant on 8 January 1966. After commissioning, he was appointed to Belmont Corps, Western Victoria Division. Paul married Edna Exon on 14 January 1967, and they were blessed with three children – Sharron born in 1967, Darren born in 1969 and Kathryn born in 1978.

In 1967, they were appointed as corps officers to the Ararat Corps, Western Victoria; in 1968 to the New Norfolk Corps and in 1971 Scottdale Corps in Tasmania. A change of work into the Social Department in August 1971 saw them appointment appointed to The Open Door Alcohol Rehabilitation Centre, North Melbourne. In 1977, they were appointed as managers of Hayville Childcare Centre, and then in 1979 as managers of the Whitmore Square Men’s Home in Adelaide. In 1981, they returned to Victoria where they were appointed as hostel officers to The Anchorage, then in 1983 appointed as supervisors to The Gill Day Care Centre.

Majors Paul and Edna continued in the social ministry area and were appointed to Social Relief Centre Melbourne as assistant manager, then back to The Anchorage Williamtown Operation as assistant to the superintendent in 1990. In 1993, they remained in Williamstown where they were appointed as managers of The Red Shield Industries until 1995 when Major Paul and Edna became the directors of The Bridge Centre in St Kilda. Their final appointment before retirement was in 1996 where Major Paul was manager of the Foodbank Family Support Services Melbourne.

Majors Paul and Edna entered retirement on 1 August 2006. In retirement, Majors Paul and Edna continued as active soldiers at Moonee Valley Corps.

His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful ... Enter into the joy of your master.’ (Matthew 25:23).
