Tribute - Susie Uzzell

Brigadier Susie Uzzell, a humble woman of God, was promoted to glory at Macquarie Lodge Arncliffe, Sydney, on Thursday 8 July 2021. She entered heaven at 99 years of age.

Susie Uzzell was born on 27 May 1922 and entered Officer Training College as a cadet in September 1942 in London.

Early in her officership, Susie served in London, including working in the city’s slums from 1943 through to 1946. She then left the United Kingdom to serve in the Brazil Territory from July 1947 until July 1975, taking up appointments such as corps officer, matron, trade secretary, divisional officer, women’s social secretary and training principal over those years.

Her officership then brought her to Australia from July 1975 to January 1979, including service as a family welfare officer at Territorial Headquarters in Sydney. She was then appointed to the Portugal Command from January 1979 till 1981, serving in roles such as regional officer, matron and corps officer.

Susie returned to the Australian Territory in 1981 and served as a matron until June 1982 when she entered retirement in Sydney near her brother Jack.

Our love and prayers along with our heartfelt sympathy cover her nephew John and their families today.

“Her master said to her, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant.
You have been faithful ..... Enter into the joy of your master.”

(Matthew 25:23)

A celebration of Brigadier Susie’s life will be held in the coming days and will be published as soon as these arrangements are finalised.
