Territory launches School of Evangelism
Territory launches School of Evangelism
25 August 2016
Most of us have experienced that moment, sharing coffee with a friend, when the subject of Jesus comes up and we're not always quite sure how best, and most naturally, to share the good news of salvation.
Effectively sharing our faith is an essential part of the Christian walk, but it’s not something that comes easily to everyone. To equip people to share their faith more effectively, The Salvation Army’s Spring School of Mission and Evangelism will launch its inaugural program on Thursday night, 8 September, at Rockdale Corps, Sydney.
In order to make the school accessible across the territory, the presentations will also be live-streamed. Prior to each presentation, go to the events page at salvos.org.au/rockdale
Captain Darren Kingston, South Sydney Hub Leader and Territorial Just Men Coordinator, has been engaged to promote evangelism throughout the territory, and is overseeing the school.
The free sessions will run from 7.30-9.30pm every Thursday night for four weeks, beginning on 8 September. The schedule of speakers is:
- 8 September – Daniel Korrel, who specialises in using drama to communicate the Gospel;
- 15 September – Reverend Dr Michael Frost, an internationally recognised Australian Evangelist and Missiologist;
- 22 September – Territorial Envoy Craig Stephens, Manager, Dooralong Transformation Centre;
- 29 September – Captain Darren Kingston.
“The sessions with these experienced evangelists will be lecture style, with some interaction and opportunities for small group discussion and personal stories,” Captain Kingston said. “The purpose of this school is to train up people in evangelism – to equip the body of Christ in how to share the Gospel in different ways and work through what that might look like. We will look at different approaches to evangelism, discuss practical ideas in sharing faith, equip people with real tools to evangelise in their own settings and equip the body to evangelise as a whole.
“This is a growth opportunity for our territory to learn how to evangelise well. Through the filming of these presentations, we also hope to take them to country towns throughout rural NSW and Queensland.”
All participants attending the school will receive a free copy of Dr Frost’s new book, Surprise the World: Five Habits of Highly Missional People (NavPress, 2015).
