Patricia Mitchell embodies the spirit of The Salvation Army.
Now into her 80s, she still collects donations at shopping centres, pouring vital dollars into her local corps’ community work in north-west Sydney.
A soldier at Hawkesbury City Corps, Pat buys the goods for care packages for new mums and lovingly packs them.
She counts donations, runs the Home League and is the first to put up her hand to make a meal for a family in need. She’s even a Salvation Army Emergency Services volunteer (“I just make the sandwiches,” she says humbly.)
There is a “Pat” in every corps, in every town, in every neighbourhood. It’s who we are, as a Salvation Army. We love God, and we love others.
Last week, Pat was awarded a Rotary Pride of Workmanship Award, honouring her work and dedication to the local community. It’s an external recognition of something she does naturally.
“Pat is a wonderful, loving, always giving, servant to the end. She loves our Lord and shows that love within every action and every word,” says fellow Hawkesbury City Salvationist, Kim Taylor.
Do you know a “Pat” in your corps or community? Tell us about them.
