Kabra outpost celebrates 10 years
6 September 2018
Kabra, an outpost of Capricorn Region Corps in Central Queensland, recently celebrated 10 years since the opening of its hall with a special service and luncheon.
Special guests, Lieut-Colonels Merv and Elaine Rowland (former Divisional Commanders of the Central and North Queensland Division), recalled leading services under a Tamourine Tree, at Yamande, Kabra, prior to the hall being opened.
Their presence was significant also as Lieut-Colonel Elaine’s brother, Major Brian Holley (also a former Divisional Commander of Central and North Queensland Division), had officially opened the building.
Seventy-five people attended the special service where praise to God was given for providing this place of worship. Lieut-Colonel Merv brought a message and during the service a Salvation Army flag for Kabra was dedicated. Rachel Hinchliffe, who is in the third of four generations to attend Kabra Salvation Army, performed two solos during the day’s celebrations.
A full band attended, which delighted those present as the corps hasn’t had a full band for many years, except during annual Kabra Christmas Carols.
Following the service, a special cake to celebrate the day was cut and morning tea was enjoyed. A luncheon was also held, during which a video extract of the Kabra Hall opening was shown.
There were also several powerpoint sessions featuring the Army’s presence in Kabra prior to the new building, the construction of the building, improvements to the building since it was erected, activities such Mainly Music, Kids Club and the annual Garage Sale. Given some of the photos showed people nearly 30 years ago, there was much laughter!
