Home-made cloth masks can be donated to The Salvation Army in Melbourne to be given to people in need.
The Salvation Army in Melbourne is taking donations of home-made cloth face masks to distribute to vulnerable people.
As of midnight Wednesday 22 July, it became mandatory for people in Melbourne and the Mitchell Shire to wear a face mask or face covering outside of the home.
National Public Relations Secretary Major Bruce Harmer says sourcing masks may be difficult for many of the people The Salvation Army works with: “We’re really concerned for the clients that come to see us on a regular basis. Many of them are in a position where they can’t afford disposable masks, which can be quite expensive if you are moving through them regularly.”
Salvationists are being encouraged to help by donating handmade adult-sized masks. “Please make sure each mask is individually wrapped or packaged,” says Bruce. “And you’re welcome to include an uplifting message or note to encourage the people we will be assisting.”
The Salvation Army is directing people to this website for instructions on how to make a cloth mask.
