Semaphore Salvos launch new playgroup
28 September 2022
Semaphore Salvos has launched their new Little Dolphins Playgroup with an exciting carnival-style open day, featuring attractions, sensory play and “snags as good as Bunnings”.
“We had a petting zoo and play equipment, and about 40-50 adults with children came along,” explains Tim Watson, Semaphore Corps Officer. “Lots of people have moved into the area and just wanted to connect with families and kids. We looked at the area and realised there wasn’t something on Tuesdays. We have the whole of Term 4 planned.”
The beachside suburb is growing with an influx of new families, with new parents, carers and grandparents occupying a radically developing area. The new playgroup is running on Tuesdays, a day parents groups rarely meet, and was promoted through a local letterbox drop and Facebook.
“There were a lot of mums that mentioned that groups shut down running during COVID, and young kids haven’t had the opportunity to do things,” says Deborah Elliot, Children’s Secretary for SA/NT, who helped organise the program and launch. “Churches had big restrictions too. This is an opportunity to open up and engage with families again.”
Little Dolphins Playgroup will run 10-11.30am every Tuesday during school term at The Salvation Army Semaphore, Exmouth Rd, Glanville.
