Getting creative at national arts camp
Youth and young adults gathered recently for the National Creative Arts Camp, north of Sydney, to share in a week of praise and worship through music and the creative arts.
More than 80 creatives aged 15 to 30 were in attendance at Milson Island Sport and Recreation Centre from Sunday to Friday 15-20 January. National Creative Arts Camp provides an environment that encourages a passion for the arts and quality experiences for Salvo creatives to practise their craft.
The national event is an opportunity for creatives to share their faith journeys and an experience that encourages creativity in ministry and mission in our local corps.
Young people chose from streams at the event, including band, dance, music team, production, visual, arts, theatre making, big band, choir, photography and spoken word.
“Our prayer for each delegate of NCAC was that they would leave camp empowered and inspired to use their craft for God’s Kingdom,” said a member of the Worship Arts Salvos Team. “It was beautiful to glimpse this in action at camp as delegates led each other through spoken word, tech, music and so much more – the Holy Spirit working powerfully as they did.”
Campers also participated in ‘Unplugged’ reflection times, and enjoyed kazoos, karaoke, and a dress up night. National Creative Arts Camp encourages, supports, develops, and builds networks for Salvo creatives across the country.
Noosa-Coolum Corps partners with Sunny Street
Accessing free medical care is one of the major challenges for people living in regional areas of Australia.
Noosa-Coolum Corps on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast has partnered with Sunny Street to provide a wellness clinic with free healthcare available to the community, starting on 6 February. Sunny Street operates nurse-led health clinics supported by telehealth doctors, mental health practitioners, and other allied health providers, including a dietician.
“This partnership adds another element to our goal of supporting the body, mind, and spirit of those who come through our Coolum Doorways,” said Lieutenant Matt Gluyas, Noosa-Coolum Corps Officer. “The clinic helps with medical needs, and we wrap community around them, build relationships and respond holistically.”
The medical clinic will operate every second Monday at the corps’ Coolum site.
Back-to-school packs in Inverell
The Salvation Army in Inverell, north-west NSW, delivered nearly 70 back-to-school pencil case packs to the local Inverell Public School this week to bless families in need as their children head back to school for 2023.
“We try to partner in our community whenever we can,” said Corps Officer Lieutenant Cindy Roehrig.
“We have a great connection with the school – from helping in the canteen to SRE and just supporting when they need it. They are quick to help us when needed as well!”
