What does it mean for women to live and lead without apology in a society built upon colonial and patriarchal ideals? Author Kemi Nekvapil has a few ideas, and as a certified coach who lives as an immigrant and a woman of colour, she is more than qualified to speak on how the modern woman can take back their power.
In total, she gives us five steps to come into our own, and along the way she shares personal stories, testimonials and tips, detailing how women can overcome their inner prejudices, false beliefs and an unfair cultural discourse.
POWER – A woman’s guide to living and leading without apology stands out from the many self-help books on the market because Kemi is able to merge professional, personal, social, mental, emotional and spiritual facets of womanhood into one book. She confronts racism and misogyny with grace and power, daring the reader to do the deep self-work so they can experience freedom.
As Christians, we know that this freedom comes from God. And Kemi’s book highlights how doing self-work can actually draw us closer to who God designed for us to be – experiencing healing through his Spirit.
While innately spiritual, POWER is not written with a Christian worldview – but knowing Jesus means we can further understand the ideals Kemi speaks of. In particular, the concept of ‘power’ and what it means to harness our power points to the agency God has given humankind. Through his Holy Spirit, we know that we can live an abundant life and overcome trials and difficulties.
If you are looking for a starting point to self-discovery, or want to better understand women who look, sound or behave differently from you, then POWER is a springboard on your journey. Available now at major bookstores.
