If you enjoy quality band music and vocals, then this album by the New York Staff Band and USA Eastern Territory Staff Songsters will certainly appeal to you.
The journey opens with a bang on the title track, ‘Let There Be Light’. But as you immerse yourself in this CD, there is a sense that the journey is not just about the light.
From the beginning, it’s hard not to be absorbed into the emotions behind the music, as each piece reflects different moods and life journeys. The music styles at times can move from sombre and reflective, which we see in ‘Lux Aeterna’ and ‘Huron Carol’; and then suddenly explodes into the light and brilliance of God’s triumph in ‘Yuletide Treasure’. It makes you want to cry out in awe, and sometimes just to be overcome at the beauty amidst the sadness.
Marvel at well-known carols presented in different and surprising styles. The unexpected combined band and songsters version of, ‘See Amid the Winter’s Snow’, will likely leave the listener awestruck, and reminds that even in the midst of a world that is full of darkness and despair, the light still shines.
While this album contains some Christmas-themed songs, it is not a holiday album but a beacon of hope for the whole year.
