Staff and leaders of The Salvation Army gathered at the official opening of a new campus of Territorial Headquarters (THQ) in a building at Glen Waverley, Melbourne, on Tuesday 1 May. This makes three main buildings between Melbourne and Sydney housing THQ personnel.

The Editorial and Public Relations teams had moved from the Blackburn campus to their new home, the day prior to the official opening. Salvation Army Housing will make the move in a couple of months.

Prior to the National Leaders, Commissioners Floyd and Tracey Tidd, cutting the ribbon to open the new office space, Commissioner Tracey shared a reading from Matthew 5:13.

Commissioner Floyd Tidd, using a Rubik’s Cube, then demonstrated that transforming one area impacts others. He explained that arriving at the end solution can mean temporarily dissembling existing structures before putting new things in place, but that the centre itself remains a constant the rest revolves around. Commissioner Tidd said that the centre of change for The Salvation Army is transforming Australia one life at a time with the love of Jesus.

Earlier, in commencing the opening ceremony, Chaplain Major Len Turner acknowledged the traditional owners of the land.

National Secretary for Personnel, Lieutenant-Colonel Kelvin Merrett, spoke briefly on the reasons for the move, and reminded staff that they were still very much a part of THQ. He said that the opening of the new site meant that THQ now consisted of three campuses – Blackburn and Glen Waverley (Victoria), and Redfern (NSW).

Lieut-Colonel Neil Venables, the National Secretary for Communications, thanked staff for their commitment to making the move a success while still ensuring the day-to-day work of the departments continued.
