Some of the volunteers and particpants in the Wollongong Corps' English classes with their certificates of participation and gifts at the end-of-year celebration last week.

Almost 60 adults, children and volunteers from Wollongong Corps’ English Conversation Class shared meals from a dozen countries at an end-of-year celebration on 12 December.

Salvation Army Inclusive Australia Multicultural Engagement Officer, Katharine Dale, with Sabah, an Iraqi refugee.

The class participants include refugees, new arrivals and overseas students attending the University of Wollongong. Wollongong Corps has been providing the classes with a dozen volunteers at the Wollongong and Warrawong libraries for the past two years.

Each participant provided meals from their country at the celebration. They were presented with a certificate acknowledging their involvement during 2019 classes, as well as a bag of gifts.

The classes continue to attract new participants, including two Chinese women who attended for the first time during the end-of-year celebration.
